How Much Does Google Ads Cost in Canada? 2026 Pricing and Benchmarks

What are you actually paying for?

Three separate costs get muddled together whenever someone asks what Google Ads costs.

CostPaid toTypical Canadian rangeNotes
Ad spendGoogle, on your own card$1,000-$5,000/month for a small businessYou control it; it can be changed or paused any day

SearchPod reports that most Canadian businesses spend $2,000 to $10,000 a month on ads (SearchPod, March 2026). Little Dragon Media puts the small-business range at $1,000-$5,000 a month, rising to $2,500-$5,000 in Toronto and Vancouver (Little Dragon Media, August 2026).

What is the average cost per click in Canada?

Canadian clicks are cheaper than American ones in most categories. First Rank puts the Canadian average at $1.66 against $1.99-$4.01 in the United States (First Rank, 2024 data), and MarketingFlow gives a similar $1.23-$1.66 (MarketingFlow, January 2026). Averages are close to useless on their own, though, because the spread between industries is enormous.

IndustryTypical CAD cost per clickRealistic starting budget
Legal$8-$30+ (Toronto $15-$40)$3,000-$10,000/month
Insurance and finance$6-$20$3,000-$8,000/month
Home services and appliance repair$4-$12 (Toronto $8-$20)$1,500-$4,000/month
Dental and healthcare$3-$10$1,500-$4,000/month
Real estate and mortgage$2-$8$1,500-$5,000/month
E-commerce and retail$0.50-$3$1,000-$3,000/month
Restaurants$0.50-$2$500-$1,500/month

Ranges compiled from MarketingFlow (January 2026), SearchPod (March 2026) and Brand Butter (April 2026). Brand Butter also notes that Atlantic Canada CPCs run 20-40% below Toronto and Vancouver, which is worth knowing before you benchmark yourself against a national average.

How much should a small business spend per month?

Work backwards from what a customer is worth instead of guessing at a budget. Take your average job value, multiply by your close rate, and you have what one lead is worth. Most businesses can comfortably pay 20-30% of that to acquire it.

A worked example. An appliance repair job averages $250 and you close one in three leads, so a lead is worth about $83. Paying $25 per lead is healthy. If your market’s cost per click is $8 and one in ten clicks becomes a lead, you are paying $80 per lead, and the honest conclusion is that your close rate or your booking process needs work before your budget does.

Below roughly $800 a month in most Toronto service categories, you will not buy enough clicks for Google’s bidding to learn anything, and the account will look like bad luck rather than bad targeting.

What do real Canadian accounts cost?

Figures below come from the live Google Ads accounts we manage, in the month named.

BusinessMonthAd spendResultCost per lead or order
Appliance repair, GTAAugust 2026$94210 tracked leads$94
Appliance repair, GTAAugust 2026$2,27229 tracked leads$78
Appliance repair, Metro VancouverAugust 2026$4,75341 tracked leads$116
Mortgage brokerage, GTAPeak monthScaled in steps1,113 leads$7.69

Note how far apart the three appliance-repair accounts sit in the same month and the same category. Market, service area and account maturity move cost per lead more than budget size does.

Is a Google Ads agency worth it on a small budget?

On a $500 monthly ad budget, usually not: management fees would exceed the spend, and there is little to optimize. Between $1,000 and $3,000, it depends on whether you have time to run the search-terms report every week. Above $3,000, an unmanaged account almost always wastes more than the fee costs, because broad match quietly widens what you pay for.

The comparison that matters is not fee versus no fee. It is fee versus the wasted spend the fee removes. In most accounts we audit, 20-40% of the budget is going to searches the owner would never accept as a lead.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ads management cost in Canada?

Canadian agencies typically charge 10-20% of ad spend, or a flat monthly fee between $300 and $1,500. Minimums of $750 to $1,000 per month are common, and one-time setup fees run $500 to $1,500 where they are charged at all. Our own flat plans are $500, $800 and $1,200 per month with no setup fee.

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads per month?

Most Canadian small businesses spend $1,000 to $5,000 a month, and $2,500 to $5,000 is more realistic in Toronto or Vancouver. The right number comes from your own economics: average job value times close rate gives you what a lead is worth, and you can pay 20-30% of that to get one.

What is a good cost per lead in Canada?

It depends entirely on what a customer is worth to you. A $94 lead is excellent for a mortgage brokerage and poor for a restaurant. Judge cost per lead against your average job value and close rate, never against another industry’s benchmark.

Why is my cost per click so much higher than the average?

National averages blend legal at $30 with retail at $1, so almost nobody actually pays the average. City matters too: Toronto home-services clicks run $8-$20 against $4-$12 nationally. Quality Score also moves your price directly, since a more relevant ad and landing page lowers what you pay for the same position.

Do I pay Google or the agency for ad spend?

You pay Google directly on your own card, on an account in your own name. Management fees are separate and should never be deducted from the ad budget.

How long before Google Ads produces results?

Leads usually start in the first week. Reliable cost per lead takes about 90 days, because Smart Bidding needs conversion data to exit its learning phase. Launch month cost per lead is always the highest it will be, which is why we ask for 90 days before going month to month.
